Job description

In Queens there are more than 312,903 public school students in more than 350 schools. The Director of Education provides liaison between the Office of the Borough President and the borough’s students, parents, teachers and administrators and the Department of Education. The Community Associate position will provide support services to the Director of Education.

The education assistant will assist the Director of Education in this work.

Minimum qualifications

Qualification Requirements

1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or

2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Providing support services to the Director of Education.

Coordinates outreach and liaison with the Borough’s Community Education Council’s (CEC) Coordinates the organization and set up of the Parent Advisory Board monthly meeting Liaisons with parents, teachers, School Leadership Teams, PTA executive members, Parent Teacher Coordinators, faculty, principals and administrators of the Borough’s schools. Works on constituent cases relevant to the educational system. Responsible for the update and maintenance of all contact lists related to education. Attends meetings on behalf of the Borough President and advances at events where the Borough President will attend. Drafts briefings for events and memos on policy issues.

Residency requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
