Security Receptionist

Job description

1. Security Access Checkpoint: Authorize and monitor the entrance and departure of employees, city officials and the public in order to maintain the security of the 6th floor.

2. Receive visitors for meetings with the Corporation Counsel and Executives. This includes scheduled meetings and appointments with the Mayor and other city officials. Involves screening the visitors and notifying the appropriate parties that their visitor has arrived.

3. Screen scheduled appointments for interviews (Legal Recruitment): Interviews are conducted on a daily basis in the Legal Recruitment Unit. When a person arrives for a scheduled interview, they are directed to sign in and wait in the reception area until the appropriate person on the interview schedule report can receive them.

4. Screen access to Professional Development (CLE Tapes): Legal staff from the Law Department and other City agencies view Continuing Legal Education tapes with the Legal Recruitment Unit.

5. Basic Security Receptionist duties (including but not limited to):

• Answering and directing incoming and internal calls to staff in the Executive Division and other Divisions in the Law Department.

• Receiving and routing mail deliveries.

• Reserving meeting rooms and directing visitors for such meetings as necessary.

• Contacting relevant staff and services in case of emergency.

• Basic office duties as needed.

Minimum qualifications

Qualification Requirements

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.

Skills Requirement

Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.

Residency requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
